Conservatives for Patient's Rights in Health Care

You really need to watch this and visit their site if you think  health care in America sucks.

Change You Can Believe In

So, just what does your Georgia health insurance policy cover? Inquiring minds want to know.

Are you a man trapped in a woman’s body? Do you want a change you can believe in? Seems Michael Moore had the right idea all along.

Go to Cuba.

Last year Cuba lifted the ban on sex-change operations. Who knew?

Mariela Castro, a sexologist and gay rights advocate, said she has identified 19 transsexuals ready to have the procedure.

In comments to a health conference that were aired on state television, Castro did not say when the surgeries would begin.

The government headed by her father, President Raul Castro, would pick up the tab.

Does this free health care extend to visitors as well or is it just for citizens?

And even more good news.

Mariela Castro, who runs Cuba’s Center for Sex Education, said she supports the lifting of a ban on lesbians being artificially inseminated.

Wonder if Mr. Fixit knows about this and will incorporate it into his overhaul of the nation’s health care system? You know, part of his empathy position . . .

Yes you can.

Just an FYI, individual health insurance policies in Georgia do not cover sex change operations.

Making Health Care Affordable for Everyone

Seems like everyone complains that it is impossible to find affordable health insurance in Georgia. Now a fellow blogger has some rather drastic suggestions that have merit. His tongue is firmly planted in his cheek . . .

Mr. Fixit seems hell-bent on destroying the best health care system in the world and lowering costs, so here are some solutions put forth by Medical Pastiche.

Outlaw all forms of health insurance. Read the rest of this entry »

Police Brutality

If you have not read the Sunday Paper report by Stephanie Ramage, you owe it to yourself to take some time to learn about how the APD brutalizes their wounded veterans.

Stephanie follows the trials and troubles of 5 former officers in APD who put their life on the line to protect us and were seriously wounded in the process. The workers comp program is managed by Mickey Walker and, according to the article, it is Walker who gives the thumbs up or thumbs down on things like pain medication, wheelchair repairs, oxygen tanks and more.

This is a disgrace and this practice needs to get the light of day.

The Pitfalls of Online Shopping for Insurance in Georgia

Although most of the topics here involve issues about health insurance in Georgia, but from time to time we branch out into other lines of coverage. This is one of those times.

I participate in several online forums, including those frequented by consumers. Based on the information provided, I try to help them out by responding to their questions.

An individual looking for term life insurance decided the easy way was to “go direct” through an online term life insurance quoting service. For whatever reason, they opted to apply to two difference insurance carriers through two separate online services.

As the application progressed, this individual was contacted by both agencies, indicating the underwriting process would stop unless they provided checking account information (account number & routing). The individual thought this was odd and, after dealing with an anonymous, online agency decided to ask additional questions on an anonymous, online forum. Read the rest of this entry »

A Hit and a Miss

While reading the Vent in the Sunday AJC there were two vents that caught my eye. Both were comments on health care, or health insurance.

“The health insurance industry vows to slow rate increases by 1.5 percentage points a year. My premium goes up 35% each year. That’s a change I can believe in?”

I believe the news article this venter referred to was actually stating health CARE leaders (medical providers) vowed to reduce increases by 1.5%.

Of course, even this was politicized and mischaracterized.

Still, the venter has a point. Perhaps the 1.5% savings falls under the something is better than nothing.

As for the 35% increase, I wonder if this is exaggerated. I can’t think of a single client who has experienced anything near that . . . ever.

The other vent either falls under the category of total embellishment or completely out of touch with reality. Read the rest of this entry »

Hidden Taxes Fund Health Care Reform

The days of affordable health insurance in Georgia may be doomed. If Washington get’s their way, look for the cost of funding health care reform to rise significantly, not drop. Some of the ideas floated around include the following.

Require medical providers to switch to EMR (electronic medical records). The projected savings are overstated and the cost is not fully revealed. Some funds are allocated as part of the so-called stimulus bill, but those are tax dollars. Remember, the federal government doesn’t have any money except what they take from us.

Even those dollars are not enough to fund the transition to EMR, the rest will have to come from the medical providers. And where will they get those dollars?

From us in the form of higher fees for medical services which translate into higher health insurance premiums.

The S.S. Titanic

Some in Washington want to put all of us in Medicare. That might not be such a good idea.

You see, Medicare is expected to run out of money in 2017.

Contributing factors?

Millions fewer people are working and paying the taxes that support the programs; yet health care costs are continuing to soar, millions of baby boomers have begun receiving Social Security retirement benefits, and Americans are living longer.

Medicare expenses are now expected to surpass Social Security’s in 2028.

Did you catch that?

The cost of running Medicare is expected to surpass the cost of Social Security in less than 20 years. Read the rest of this entry »
